This post is specially for those who do not how to put a knot.
I have seen people struggling to put a knot or they have tie with a knot. Though I know how to tie a tie, I too struggle sometimes. Because I am out of practice and I hardly get a change to wear Ties.
I am just wondering how many men are completely unaware of this art. May be you’ve never learned how to tie a tie. May be you’re out of practice like me.
Today I have seen a video clip in youtube which explains how to put different knots.
Windsor
A lot of guys will mistakingly refer to this as the “double Windsor” due to the existence of the half Windsor. The proper term is The Windsor or Full Windsor.
The Windsor Knot is a thick, wide and triangular tie knot that projects confidence. It would therefore be your knot of choice for presentations, job interviews, courtroom appearances, and anywhere else you need to look respectable. This means you should definitely learn how to do this knot - it’s actually quite easy to do.
Because of it’s size, keep in mind that it is best suited for wide spread collar shirts.
Half-Windsor
The half-Windsor offers the upscale look of a Windsor with less effort. Accordingly, there’s a good chance that you’ll come to rely on it pretty heavily. It’s not as wide as the Windsor, but its still wide enough that you should make sure it’s not pushing your collar up awkwardly.
Pratt or “Shelby”
This knot is highly symmetrical, like the Windsor, but looser to wear and not as time-consuming to create. Since the Pratt is neither as large as the Windsor nor as narrow as the four-in-hand knot, it pairs well with most dress shirts and looks suitable on any occasion.
I couldn’t find a video with words so here are the instructions to go along with the video:
1. Place the tie around your neck with the seam (the end with the tag) facing outward on both the thin and fat ends. Note that the fat end should be hanging lower than the thin end on the chest.
2. Cross the two ends over to form an X and flip the fat end and through the loop to form a knot around the smaller end.
3. Pull both ends apart quite tightly to ensure your knot is snug, then bring the fat end of the tie over the thin end to cover your first knot.
4. Pull the fat end up and through the loop, then drop it down through the knot.
5. Tighten and dimple up.
Four-in-hand
Here is a great one to wear with casual clothes, learn this knot. Try this with a casual dress shirt with softer material, preferably with a smaller spread. This one will come in handy when you’re in a rush too.
It’s naturally going to be a little asymmetrical, so don’t be discouraged that it doesn’t look straight, that’s all part of the four-in-hand. The dimple is much harder to produce on this kind of knot, and sometimes will not form at all.
If you have read this article and mastered the four standard knots, congratulations, you are officially trained in the basic arts of necktie tying.
If you are thinking of making a cash payment of your EMI in LIC housing finance, change your mind. Yes, otherwise they will make you to write an assignment.
Last week, I went Saidapet regional office to make my EMI payment. The person who was standing before me writing his account number in all the 500 & 1000 currencies. I was wondered why he was doing this. When I neared the payment counter, I saw a notice which says “Write your account number in all 500 & 1000 currencies and write all currency numbers in the pay-in slip”. Fortunately, I brought my cheque book and I was paying by cheque . Otherwise I would have written the assignment .
I don’t know why this strange procedure is followed by the LIC. Even RBI advises not to write anything in the currencies. But this people are forming a separate rule and putting the customers in trouble. What if the same procedure is followed by the banks.
One good thing is LIC will accept the cash payment up to 20K. Otherwise people would spent their precious time in writing the A/C nos. and currency numbers.
NCR, a global self-service technology major, has developed an interactive technology for cash withdrawals without an ATM card. In this facility, one can use a system generated Personal Identification Number (PIN) to withdraw money from his account in an automated teller machine (ATM).
If you fell out of budget during a shopping spree, you can call up your friend for his PIN and use it to withdraw money from his account. NCR is in talks with a leading private sector bank to offer this technology, reported The Economic Times.
“We are also in talks with a couple of other banks to offer our technology. The technology solution will offer services such as stock trading, shopping, mobile money transfer and bill payments through interactive ATMs. However, the system generated PIN can be used only once. Banks are willing to spend on this technology,” said Manjunath Rao, Country Sales Manager of NCR India’s financial solutions division .
According to Rao, the PIN transaction through a mobile phone is secure as it uses encrypted messages. Shopping and stock trading are also possible through interactive ATMs as banks have access to customers’ PAN, address and account balance.
The new technology solution works on Pentium IV computers with XP operating system. It costs about Rs 15 per customer for the banks that have a 15 million plus customer base. Stock trading and mobile money transfer through ATMs are widely in use in Singapore, the U.S. and Europe. The mobile subscriber base in India has touched 250 million now and is growing at a scorching pace.
At present, nearly 23 percent of banking transactions are through ATMs and banks are attempting to ramp up these kinds of transaction. Globally too, the trend is towards self-service in banks and retail stores.
Yesterday I had a chance to visit this programme. An audio compact disc on Kalaignar Kaaviyam (life history of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi) written by poet Vaali was released by music director M.S. Viswanathan, was received by film producer AVM Saravanan.
At the function, the CD was previewed for 15 mins. The lyrics was written and spoken Vaali (what a great voice he had). There is a reason, why I say Vaali had a great vioce. The CD was recorded during May and June. A month back, he was undergone a major surgery and he is not recovered 100%. Due to that, he was struggling to speak.
The CD was produced by C-VAM EXX Foundation and they are selling it for Rs.100/-
Last week I had a very bad experience with HDFC bank and I was disappointed with the worst and poor service. The so called bank took 4 days to credit my local cheque.
Here is the story…
One of my cheque (given to SRIRAM Finance) comes to HDFC on 8th of every month. Since my salary account was transfered from HDFC to Deutsche Bank, there was no fund on my HDFC a/c. So I decided to deposit some amount in my HDFC a/c and presented a ICICI (Cenotaph Road) cheque in the Kodampakkam HDFC ATM on 4th Oct, evening (now I think that was the most useless thing which I ever did).
Usually the other banks would take 1 day to credit your account against the local cheque. But in this stupid HDFC, It took 4 days and finally my account was credited on 8th Oct, sometime in the evening. Meantime the cheque which I gave it to SRIRAM presented to HDFC in the morning and the next moment it was returned by giving the reason “Insufficient Fund”. Also HDFC bank charged me Rs.350/- towards the Cheque return charges.
When I check my account status online, I found that HDFC had considered my cheque which was presented in ATM on 6th, Oct and the same has been updated in my account and was credited my account on 8th. Because of this stupid and slow operating process, I lost my loyalty with SRIRAM and I was asked to pay EMI by cash with the fine of Rs. 250/-.
Here is the transaction details,
I called the HDFC customer care (most of the time you will get disconnected while waiting on the line) and complaint about my issue. The customer care executive didn’t even care about my complaint and kept on repeating there bank policy like a parrot. I wanted to talk to the Customer Care Manager. I was denied twice and finally one lady came on line and introduced herself as a Manager and acted like a parrot ;-). I didn’t want to get tensed by talking about this and I left out.
The story was not ended. After 10 days, my account was again debited Rs. 43.26 towards the service charge for the Cheque return charges. I do not know how much still I need to pay for their laziness and the stupid system.
Finally I decided to end up the relationship with HDFC. Do not want to deal with the bank which does not know how to treat the customers.
A good news for those are disturbed by the unwanted telemarketing phone calls and SMS.
Any Mobile or landline subscriber who does not wish to receive telemarketing calls, can request their telephone number be included in the NDNC (National Do Not Call) Registry. If you are a BSNL mobile customer, type a message “DNC ACT” and send it to 53733. Landline customers can contact 1500 and register for DNC.
I am very glad to avail this services. As I work in night shift, I suffered a lot due to these telemarketers calls during day time, when I was deep asleep. Most of the time I had to switch off my mobile to escape from this calls. Because of this, I missed lot of important calls.
Today I registered for DNC service and will not switch off my mobile.
