LIC Housing Finance: Strange cash payment procedure

If you are thinking of making a cash payment of your EMI in LIC housing finance, change your mind. Yes, otherwise they will make you to write an assignment.
Last week, I went Saidapet regional office to make my EMI payment. The person who was standing before me writing his account number in all the 500 & 1000 currencies. I was wondered why he was doing this. When I neared the payment counter, I saw a notice which says “Write your account number in all 500 & 1000 currencies and write all currency numbers in the pay-in slip”. Fortunately, I brought my cheque book and I was paying by cheque 
. Otherwise I would have written the assignment

I don’t know why this strange procedure is followed by the LIC. Even RBI advises not to write anything in the currencies. But this people are forming a separate rule and putting the customers in trouble. What if the same procedure is followed by the banks.
One good thing is LIC will accept the cash payment up to 20K. Otherwise people would spent their precious time in writing the A/C nos. and currency numbers.
